Hi!

Welcome to my blog! I hope you find inspiration to take a travel challenge yourself and/or find ideas of where to visit in California and what to do in those places! Enjoy!

An Olympic Day.

Lake Tahoe has always held a very special place in my heart, I used to visit there every Summer as a child. I haven't been back in years and it almost seems as if I began to forget how sentimental this place was me to and how much fun I used to have when visiting. My grandparents owned a house near Alpine Meadows for years and ever since they sold the place I have not been back. Something that no one may believe with me having a readily available house in the area for years is that I never visited during Winter. This was actually my first time and it was a complete blast, I have totally been missing out.

Our day started with about two to two and a half hour drive to Tahoe City. I haven't done the drive in so many years and was so young when I used to do it, so it was all a bit of a pleasant surprise for me. Through Sacramento, Gold Country and finally into the arching forest of Alpine trees and ever-counting number of Ski Resorts.

We arrived around 11 A.M. leaving us with some time to shop around the Boatworks Mall which also held our lunch spot that didn't open until 11:30 A.M. I used to go to this shopping mall at least once day during our week vacation to the area and remember it well. Mom and I looked around the Tahoe T-Shirtery, Hemmings & Jarrett and went to the nearby balcony to overlook the lake.

Finally it was time for lunch at our favorite place in town, Jake's On The Lake. We were seated at small two-person table in front of a large window, looking straight out on the waterfront. We agreed on having a small lunch so that we could continue playing tourist and eating whatever treat may have come across us later in the day. We each ordered a bowl of clam chowder and shared a plate of their famous fish tacos. Again, since I haven't been there in years, I couldn't remember what I had ordered before and what was good, but came to understand why these tacos were kept on the menu for 30 years.

Next we decided to take walk by the lake and stroll through a couple more nearby shops. After the windchill came up, we decided it was time to get back into the car and drive to our next location.

Our next location is Famous... Sporty... and is near one of the many Ski Resorts... Can you guess? We were heading to Squaw Valley Olympic Village. My mom used to leave the house every morning and head to Squaw for coffee at Starbucks so even more than other locations, this had to be the most familiar. Walking into Squaw I was so jealous looking up at the skiers, wishing I was on the mountain. Yet, like I said, this was my first time there during the Winter and that was because it was unusually "warm" and the snow was not falling, not exactly perfect ski weather. So essentially our trip to Squaw was just for old times sake, but we were given an unexpected and especially amusing treat. It was the first weekend of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics in South Korea and they had set up a huge viewing area right next to the Squaw Valley Aerial Tram. Mom and I are both huge fans of watching the Olympics and were honestly disappointed we were missing the first big day of events due to our travels so it turned out perfect! They had a silly Winners stand with Gold, Silver and Bronze platforms that I of course had to take a picture on close by as well.

The rest of our day consisted of watching the Olympics on the big screen, walking around the Olympic Village and driving back home (we made it just a day-trip this time.)

Again, didn't take many photos, but next month is much better! Food and Clothes reviews and tips on other pages for this month :)

Hope you guys enjoyed as always!

P.S. For those wondering, we did not follow the book what-so-ever this month on suggestions of what to do in Lake Tahoe. They suggested going snowmobiling, taking an aerial ride (gondola, tram), and/or going to Emerald Bay. If you do visit any of these places, please tell me how it goes, I may have to swing by one this Summer! (Maybe just not the snowmobiling, save that for next Winter ;) )

Check out the worse to better but still bad photos my mother and I failed at taking at the entrance of Squaw :)
